Happy New Year! I am now living and working in California (in the Los Angeles area). California has been a pleasant surprise – I LOVE the weather and never get tired of the
sunny days. I am currently working for Panavision. We design, manufacture, and lease cameras, lenses, and other equipment to the entertainment industry.
I miss Arkansas and all of you.
Thanks, Mike, for starting this blog.
Hi Boss,
Glad to hear you are putting your many talents to good use in sunny CA. How about a recent picture…or an old one for that matter. I know I have one somewhere but can’t put my hands on it right now. They may still be packed away from our move to SC. This is my year to become better organized again(you know, the I used to be).

Jannette,
You are the one who hasn’t changed a bit. You look, as always, fabulous in your pictures.
I stopped the Japanese study after leaving Arkansas and every once in a while think about taking it up again. My next plan is to take a woodworking class. I have a brand new wood lathe and am anxious to learn how to use it.
Ingrid is a Junior at California State University in Chico, CA. I bought her a horse about 6 months ago and we are getting prepared to send him away to college for the spring. I will post a picture of Ingrid on Santos for you to see.
Penn graduated from Bennington College 1.5 ago and is working at the Pasadena Playhouse (the oldest regional theater in California). It is located in a beautiful old building about 5 blocks from his house so he can walk or bicycle to work. He is their archivist and grant writer and could not be happier.

What great pictures! Did you take the one of Ingrid and Santos jumping the fence? She packs a big whollop for such a petite one doesn’t she. Glad Penn has found his niche in life. It must be such fun to work there and rub elbows with the celebrities. I looked up the website, and there he was. How exciting!
Walter and I were about 10 minutes away from your office in August 2003 and didn’t realize it. We must keep better track of each other. We had been to a wedding in Napa Valley and drove to the LA area to visit family there. Dennis’ daughter and her family live about 20 minutes from your office. Her husband is a cartoonist who works on some very well-known cartoons. I’ll leave it at that for the blog.
I must say, Peter is looking chipper these days. I always thought he was such a handsome fellow.

I was wondering how the New Orleans operation fared during Hurricane Katrina.

Jannette,
We opened the Panavision New Orleans office two weeks before Katrina hit. Luckily all the employees escaped safely and we sustained no damage to the facility. We re-opened in February 2006 in order to support filming of “Deja Vu”. In visiting the office I was struck by the serendipity of the damage. One street would be untouched and the next destroyed. We were fortunate that our office and corporate apartments were on slightly higher ground.

The damage sounds similar to what happens in a tornado–the cup would be missing, but the saucer it was sitting in remained. Now tell me how close your facility in NY is to the WTC site.
BTW, loved “Deja Vu.” But, then I would probably pay to watch Denzel watch paint dry!
So, you are going to do a little woodworking! For some reason, I am having trouble visualizing that. But then, you probably can’t see me building a landscaping wall either. I haven’t done it, yet, but I have it planned for spring…stay tuned.
