Great to read posts from all of you!
I am still at UALR, where I started teaching in 1990 when I left the AT&T plant. Terri and I are at 26 years and counting of blissful marriage, and our children are out of the nest. Andrea graduated from Boston University, is almost finished with a masters in Public Health from George Washington U, and is married to a USNA grad, and Kevin is at UAF in the Walton School of Business. No engineers in the next generation…
I spend much of my spare time looking for Ivory-billed Woodpeckers (see http://www.ibwo.org). If you have followed the story of the re-discovery in Arkansas of this thought-to-be-extinct species, you have probably seen the video I took in April 2004. It’s been an interesting experience. Keep an eye out for a documentary film (or two) coming out soon about the bird.
Cheers!
David,
Walter and I saw the the video and did not realize it was yours. That video caused quite a stir as I recall. On several occasions, we had spotted two very large woodpeckers in the forest we called our backyard (our farm property in Independence Co., AR) and had taken pictures, so we checked them right away. Turned out they were not ivory billed. I will be unpacking the many boxes of pictures this year, and when I run across them, I will send them to you if you wish.

I had no idea I actually knew the man who shot the impressive (lucky?) video of these birds. Great job! We’ve only gotten pictures of raccoons and deer in the woods with our game camera. What a thrill that must have been!

Your sighting of the Ivory Billed was wonderful!!! I met you the next year at the Hollow Bend NWR. At the time I didn’t know we had worked for the same company. Hope we get to see a large flock of they soon. I feel like they are just waiting for us to find them.

David,
My last memory of you was after you had quit working at the plant. You had pulled up at the front guard shack in your new “electric car”. I was completely mesmerized by it. You opened up the hood and let me look it over.
When I read the first reports on the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker, I saw your name and instantly remembered you. I found some of your web site work and read everything you had on the subject. I keep my eyes out for any and all updates on the bird’s sightings. Hope they catch a good movie and pictures of it soon. Maybe even of a nesting pair!!!
Good work and good luck to you!

David,
Thanks to Delora Butler, she told me about this site, and, then, I run across this blog about the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker story and it’s all connected to you. Way to go David.
Please contact me by email. I have an interesting story to tell you.
